Home Care Assistance Instead of Institutional Care

The US population is aging. Baby boomers are reaching retirement age by the thousands every day. With a longer living population can come problems with living at home without assistance. Even more often boomers have living parents who can no longer care for themselves properly, but certainly do not need nursing home care. Often the boomers cannot care for the older parents because they do not live nearby or are not physically capable themselves. Because of this situation a new and necessary industry has sprung up in this country. Albuquerque Home Care assistance is now available for all older adults who need care. A home care assistance agency interviews, screens and provides personnel who are trained to help you in many ways. They find the people who can take care of your needs. Their employees are bonded and insured, so you can trust them with your family members and their houses. You can find as little or as much help as you need. Do you or your parents need help cleaning the house? You can find the person who will help at a home care assistance agency. Need more help? Need somebody to run errands, to get groceries, to sit with your ill grandmother? Albuquerque Live-in Care aids can provide the assistance you need. Maybe your needs are more complicated. If your loved one needs help bathing, getting dressed or needs incontinence care, home care assistance will provide someone to assist. From sitting with the patient, to cleaning the house to offering full nursing care, for as many hours a week as you need, Albuquerque Elder Care Professionals will provide it. Your needs may have nothing to do with aging relatives or your own health problems. You may be entrusted to care for a disabled child. Your child might have been born with a terrible disability, one that demands 24 hour care, 7 days a week. The child might need constant medicating, trach suctioning, bathing, dressing and toileting. Most parents cannot deal with a child who is disabled and needs constant care. The parents need an occasional break. Home care assistance can provide a night nurse, so the parents can get some sleep. Or a day nurse, so mom can run an errand or both parents can see a movie or have dinner out. To find the appropriate caretakers, talk to an agency personnel, your insurance company case manager, the MD and other members of your relatives treatment team. Alaska Gold Rush

A modern day gold rush is underway. With gold prices at an all time high more and more gold seekers are heading into the gold mining fields of Arizona, Nevada, California, New Mexico, Alaska and many other places across the U.S. and other gold bearing areas of the earth. In the gold mining and prospecting world you can now routinely hear of men and women gold seekers spending thousands of dollars on gold mining and prospecting equipment they have never used, having no experience finding gold and buying worthless gold mining claims with hopes of striking it rich. Those who are mining the miners are in the real gold. Recreational gold mining and prospecting has become a popular outdoor recreation in a number of countries, including New Zealand (especially in Otago), Australia, South Africa, Wales (at Dolaucothi and in Gwynedd), in Canada and in the United States especially in western states but also elsewhere. Recreational gold mining is almost entirely small-scale placer mining. Placer gold mining is the mining of alluvial deposits (deposits of sand and gravel in modern or ancient stream beds) for minerals. This may be done by open-pit (also called open-cast mining) or by various forms of tunneling into ancient riverbeds. Excavation may be accomplished using water pressure (hydraulic mining), surface excavating equipment or tunneling equipment. The name derives from Spanish, placer, meaning “sandbank.” It refers to mining the precious metal deposits (particularly gold and gemstones) found in alluvial deposits. The metal or gemstones, having been moved by stream flow from an original source such as a vein, is typically only a minuscule portion of the total deposit. The containing material may be too loose to safely mine by tunneling. Where water under pressure is available, water under pressure may be used to mine, move, and separate the precious material from the deposit. Gold mining and prospecting activities allowed on public lands vary with the agency and the location. Gold pans and shovels are commonly allowed, but sluice boxes and suction dredges may be prohibited in some areas. The Department of Agriculture in the U.S. is now of the view that recreational gold panning and gold prospecting in national forests is permitted provided that no machinery or explosives are used, no waterways are diverted, and no permanent or semi-permanent structures are built. There are public mining areas in many states, and prospecting may allow one to stake a gold placer claim or other type of gold mining claim in certain areas. Some public lands have been set aside for recreational gold panning. Some private land owners also give permission for small-scale gold mining. The Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPAA) is an organization dedicated to finding and mining gold on a small or recreational scale. It has gold claims across America and members can work the claims for a yearly fee. The club is headquartered in Temecula, California. Most, if not all GPAA activities are in the United States. The organization was founded in 1968 to preserve and promote the great heritage of the North American Prospector. The association greatly frowns upon mining methods that harm the environment, and is against anti-prospecting bureaucracy. The beauty of this new gold rush is we get to experience it and see the successes and failures as they unfold in the gold fields. Gold Mining and prospecting equipment sales are at an all time high, advertising in gold prospecting and mining magazines is being sold at premium prices and the BLM is processing more gold claims than anytime in the last 20 years. Metal detectors costing $4,000.00 plus designed for gold are selling like gold pans in the days of the gold rush of the 1800s. This is a very exciting time to be a gold prospector.

Discovering the Real Alaska

With Alaska becoming such a popular vacation destination for travelers around the world, its history and society has become an increasingly interesting subject as well. There are many misconceptions about Alaska as far as its terrain, weather, and citizens are concerned. In reality, it is a somewhat untouched area of the world that is rich in beauty and culture. Alaska is a country of extremes, of old and new, warm and cold, and ice and water. Only in somewhere like Alaska will ancient Eskimo and Indian cultures be mixed with modern practices of fishing and gold mining. The same skin boats are used from over a thousand years ago-except they are now fitted with the latest outboard motor. The beauty of Alaska has reached the ears of citizens across the globe. Because of this growing popularity, the upscale world cruise industry has began to include Alaska among its ports of call in the past couple of decades. The vast area of Alaska equals about 20% of the size of the United States, or 586,000 square miles. One of the misconceptions about Alaska is that there is only one kind of climate: cold. In reality, there is almost every conceivable kind of climate and terrain imaginable. Between southeastern Alaska and the most northern part of the Arctic slope there are breathtaking snow covered mountains, enchanting forests, and expansive, wide-open prairies. The Yukon River is the third largest on the North American continent, only after the Mississippi and the Mackenzie. Although there are no great lakes, there are a number of small ones. A typical presumption about Alaska, as mentioned previously, is its extreme weather. The general public assumes there is no such thing as summer and that there is only ice covering the land. In actuality, 75% of Alaska is well below the Arctic Circle and, even the lowest recorded winter temperature is still above Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota’s. In central Alaska, the highs in the summertime are comparable to those of New York City, which is actually quite hot. Passengers on five star world cruises are constantly shocked by the temperate climates in Alaska that they experience at Alaska’s various ports and at sea. The United States Weather Bureau has records of temperatures in Alaska reaching 100° F in the shade at Fort Yukon, 99° at Fairbanks, and equivalent highs for other areas. The highest recorded temperature in the beach areas of Florida does not currently surpass 96°. These statistics prove that Alaska is not the frigid, igloo-ridden part of the United States that many assume it is. Ironically, many a traveler who has been to both tropical areas of the globe as well as the Arctic complain more about the heat in the Arctic than from the cold in the tropics. This may be due to the humidity found in hot areas of the Arctic-in the summer months the days grow so long that they reach a point where the sun never sets and there is no cooling-off time period. This is not the case in the tropics, where the sun sets for a long evening of temperate, cool weather. The glaciers that adorn Alaska’s coastline are also a source of misconception. Just because Alaska has a multitude of them does not automatically equal freezing cold weather. Glaciers are present in many parts of the world that are not associated with cold weather, such as Africa, Asia, and South America. With the correct amount of precipitation and a high altitude, a glacier can form just abut anywhere, even in tropical and sub-tropical climates. Alaska does have some of the most beautiful glaciers in the world, however. These glaciers are one of the main reasons Alaska has become a popular luxury world cruise destination. There is some truth to Alaska having cold areas, particularly in the northern regions. The sub-soil in these regions is eternally frozen and hard as concrete. Over 50% of Canada also has frozen sub-soil, as well as huge areas in the Soviet Union. These areas of frozen soil result in countless puddles (both large and small) and lakes ideal for planes with pontoons to land on in the summer.
